Listening to this episode right now, and you're spending a lot of time talking about whether this story may have been order-swapped with episode 2 — but in this very podcast you've already mentioned something that make that impossible. Every episode has a reference in it to the next. The pilot referenced Penrose. The second episode referenced "See Voices." As such, this clearly is, and was intended to be, the third episode. I suppose it's possible that that the reference was added later, but that seems unlikely given the way the whole "Fringe" story flows.

I might be remembering this wrong, so apologies if I am, but I think we were suggesting the episodes were written with a different order in mind and then swapped before production. Being swapped at the writing stage still allows for the production team to hide a little nod to the next episode. Thanks for listening!
